May 2019 Food Bin

Sandgate Parish Council are delighted to support the work of the Folkestone Rainbow Centre by hosting a Food Bin at Sandgate Library.

Any items that the Sandgate community collect will be received by the Rainbow Centre team at their warehouse prior to being sent out to their Distribution Centres, Foodstop and the Winter Shelter.

The Rainbow Centre say ” the increase in the number of people coming to the foodbank distribution centres has been far greater than expected. Since 1 January to 15 March, we redeemed 287 foodbank vouchers, which has fed 600 individuals (a dramatic increase from the same period in 2018 – 91 vouchers redeemed, 357 individuals fed).”

Help feed local people in crisis. Items we would especially appreciate this month are:

  • Long life milk
  • Coffee
  • Tinned Meat
  • Tinned Fish

Please ensure all food is well within date and unopened as we are not allowed to distribute out of date food. You can drop donations to the red food bin at Sandgate Library during library opening hours. Thank you!

Local Events: New District Fly-posting Advice Leaflet

Due to the change in season and the start of local events being advertised or due to take place, Folkestone and Hythe District Council are aware that many people will be wanting to share the news of their events by erecting signs, banners or notices to highlight “what’s on”, without being aware of the fly-posting rules.

They have produced a guide about advertising or maybe holding events within the District or on Parish land.  Folkestone and Hythe District Council want the events to be well attended, as well as either fun, educational or supportive to those attending – but also to ensure organisers are aware of the rules around advertising and avoid dampening the mood receiving warning letters or worse when they are just trying to make it their event a success.

Kent County Council Notice: Road Closure – Horn Street, Cheriton, Folkestone

Kent County Council Notice: Road Closure – Horn Street, Cheriton, Folkestone

The planned closure of part of Horn Street, Cheriton, near Folkestone, will now be from Monday 28 January 2019, with estimated completion by 29 April 2019.

The closure planned for Monday 21 January did not go ahead for operational reasons, and has been deferred until next Monday, 28 January. Apologies are given for any inconvenience caused by this change.

Horn Street will be closed at its northern end, between St Martin’s Primary School and the junction with Queen’s Avenue.

Local access to the remainder of Horn Street continues from either direction up to where the road is closed, but there will be no through access during these works.

The alternative route for all through traffic is via Horn Street, A259 Seabrook Road, B2063 Hospital Hill, West Road, North Road, Military Road, Risborough lane and Church Road.

Access for any residents affected will be maintained when it is safe to do so, but there are likely to be delays and certain times when this is not possible for safety reasons.

The closure is to allow works to be carried out to upgrade the local sewer for new developments, being carried out by Cappagh Browne, working with Southern Water.

Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to re-open the road outside the working hours.

There is a chance that the works may over-run for such reasons as adverse weather conditions or unforeseen engineering difficulties.
